Spain’s most stylish royal is continuing to challenge what it means to dress like a queen.
Queen Letizia today stepped out for a day of formal engagements with husband King Felipe VI in a look that, thanks to her modern wardrobe, fits in just as well on the chic streets of Madrid as it does in the royal palace.
The look was composed of a thin black long-sleeved sweater and silky high-waisted trousers in a deep teal hue with a subtle sheen. The cool, structured pants with long pockets were fabulous, and yet they were not the most surprising part of the ensemble. It was really the queen’s chunky black leather loafers that took the spotlight.

Chunky loafers have been having a major moment for a few seasons now, with It girls including Hailey Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, and Bella Hadid often championing the bulky footwear and giving it a schoolgirl spin with frilly socks and pleated miniskirts. And now, the trend has gotten the Spanish royal stamp of approval.

While it was unexpectedly casual, we’re not surprised by Letizia’s trendy look. After all, this is the same queen who hosted an award show two years ago in a breezy, on-sale black-and-white Mango dress. She also inspired us with a few outfits last year, most notably an ultrasophisticated little black dress with netted detailing at the top and fun fringe that fell from her shoulders to her waist.
